Twisters

This is a relationship crushed under the weight of midnight’s anvil. I’m so lost without you, he says. But she yawns. Tomorrow, is her reply.

The elevator stops between floors and the lights flicker and in that moment he worries about things he hasn’t done and so he lets out a fart.

He kisses her. The dawn’s first light casts a warm glow in the room. I’ll never hate you, he whispers. And then she says someone else’s name.

She threatened legal action if I posted the photo to Facebook. You’re not serious, I said. I was the perfect bride, she replied. I hit send.

Late night, the denizens of the bar desperate for companionship, but he stays on the outskirts, because he knows his phone isn’t sexy enough.

The cave is endless. What goes on forever? he asks. It’s no time to joke, she says. Pull my finger, he says. His giggles echo for eternity.
